Giovanni Battista Piranesi's series of etchings of imaginary prisons, Le Carceri, is not often thought of in terms of Venetian view painting - for good reason. Published annually, it seeks to foster collaborative scholarship among art historians, museum curators, and conservators internationally. The Journal features the work of established and emerging scholars engaging with a range of methodological approaches and covering all periods of history, from ancient to contemporary. Shorter texts highlight new acquisitions and discoveries, and also present the diverse tools for scholarship in development at the Getty.
